Programs

Our core programs invest in the advancement of young women in Southeast Asia.

We’ve already seen the community-wide impact of supporting, inspiring and educating the brightest young women with leadership potential through our Harpswell Cambodian higher education program and the Harpswell ASEAN Women’s Leadership Summit.

It is our hope that these young women, individually and through the powerful Alumnae Network,  will eventually help uproot social inequality by transforming systems, attitudes and social norms.

Harpswell’s current programs were born out of earlier community-led efforts in the rural community of Tramung Chrum in 2003. These efforts included the construction of a village elementary school, the initiation of a healthcare program and the founding of Red Dirt Road, a women-owned sewing school and shop. Support Red Dirt Road by purchasing their handmade silk accessories.

“Harpswell people proved to me that a young woman from rural areas can go far further in their education and explore more about the world.

Before coming to Harpswell, I never thought that I would have the ability to go abroad, get my master’s degree, express my opinion in public confidently or be others' supporter. Through what Harpswell taught and trained me, those things do not seem impossible anymore.”
